Hello, my fellow e-book lovers!
My new Kindle Paperwhite 4 just arrived a few days ago and I thought I would share my experience on buying it. My previous one, Kindle Paperwhite 3, broke down during quarantine.
Since I live in the Philippines, Amazon is not easily accessible so I am hoping this post will help my fellow Filipino readers who are thinking of buying one. There are a few shops in Lazada (like Juan Gadget) that people swear are legit but during the time I was looking for it, there were no stocks available. Fortunately, when I checked on Amazon, the Kindle Paperwhite was on sale from $149.99 to $119.99. I paid $27.26 for the shipping fee for a total of $147.25 or approximately 7,300 PHP.
This is the kind of book that would’ve been perfect except for one thing: I did not root for them to be together. Yes, they had chemistry but since it all happened in one day, I still feel that everything was a bit rushed.
Yes, I get that this was all supposed to happen in one day but I’m not really a big fan of instalove. I also had a little problem with the ending. Everything was perfect and I was about to give this five stars since it kind of negated the instalove part. Until the epilogue happened.
When you’ve had the best, suddenly, everything pales in comparison.
I know I shouldn’t have but I couldn’t stop comparing this to The Unhoneymooners. It was my first Christina Lauren book and I absolutely loved it. It was hilarious and fun in all the right ways. On the other hand, Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating was fun… just not as fun.
I admit that I also didn’t give this the full attention it deserved. This past week, I was so busy that I only read this for at most fifteen minutes during lunch break. But when it did have my full attention, I was gripped.
I haven’t laughed this much while reading a book in such a long time. Like literally laughing out loud and not just in my head. The Unhoneymooners was that funny for me.
What I loved most about this book is how the characters were not really mean towards each other. I love good enemies to lovers romance but when one of them is abusive towards the other, that’s where I draw the line. Ethan and Olive hated each other’s guts which resulted in this awesome and witty banter. It’s what made this book so good for me. I loved both of their characters and they were perfect for each other. I got so invested in their relationship that I breathed a huge sigh of relief when everything went well in the end.
“How did one not obsess over something wonderful? How did one like something a reasonable amount?”
This quote pretty much sums up how I feel about Helen Hoang’s writing. When I read The Bride Test, I found it hard to finish any book I started. I just wasn’t in the mood. I wanted to read others like it. So I read The Kiss Quotient and again, I was sucked into it.
This was a Little Red Riding Hood retelling but I forgot that it was.
Honestly, it doesn’t remind me of anything about the fairytale except that she has a grandmother and there’s a mean girl which I suppose was the wolf.
I loved It Started With Goodbye (a Cinderella retelling about Tatum, Tilly’s stepsister) and I was excited about this. So believe me when I say that I’m really, really sad that this turned out to be a disappointment.
This is my first Helen Hoang book so I had no expectations. I heard about The Kiss Quotient — it was big on the book blogging community — but I haven’t had time to read it yet. But when I got an ARC for the second book, I couldn’t miss the opportunity.
Right from the beginning, I was hooked. It even made me stay up late until 4 AM even though I had work in the morning. It was that good.
